Man this sucks. I bought the orgingal game and want to play on legal servers, but when i try to connect to a legal server it says Awaiting cd key authorization. I really tried everything, this is what activision mailed back, after I mailed them with this problem. it's really worthless because I already tried all of it!!! Date 10 Feburary 2005
Further to your correspondence of 10 Feburary 2005
If you are using Windows XP, make sure the built-in firewall is disabled.
Be sure that your computer is not behind a software or hardware firewall of any kind. This includes firewalls built into routers or other equipment, as well as programs like Zone Alarm, Black Ice, and the integrated firewall in Windows XP. Activision does not support the use of our games from behind a firewall. If it is not possible to disable the firewall you will need to open the ports for Call of Duty. Call of Duty transmits and receives network traffic on port 28960 using both TCP and UDP. The exact details on opening a port is specific to your firewall. For more information check with the firewall documentation or manufacturer.
Another common cause of problems is a poorly configured router or connection sharing solution. If you are using a router, ICS, NAT or a software gateway you may have problems playing on the internet. This is because the router may not be forwarding the correct information back to your machine. It may be possible to get around this problem using port forwarding or DMZ. You can find more information on configuring shared connections for multiplayer gaming at www.practicallynetworked.com. Please be aware that like a firewall we cannot actively support using shared connections to play online.
The most common cause of problems though is usually the simplest - an overburdened network stack. By default many computers have protocols the average person doesn't use; things like VPN or NDISWAN. You may want to contact your ISP to find out exactly which protocols you can safely remove. Often times network game problems are resolved by something as simple as removing unused adapters and protocols.
The problem may also be related the status of your ISP or that of the server. Due to the dynamic nature of the internet and the variable levels of traffic, it is impossible to completely eliminate this error. If you are having persistent problems you may wish to try a different server, or just wait and play a little while later.
Delete the codkey file from your hard drive. 1) Click the Start button > Find (or Search) > Files & Folders. 2) Search your hard drives for "codkey". 3) Delete the codkey file located in the C:\...\Call of Duty\Main folder. 4) Launch the multiplayer game. 5) Click Multiplayer options, then Enter Key. 6) Enter your CD Key.

----------------------- hello, I just bought the game call of duty united offensive but I can't connect with it to legal servers. I can connect to cracked servers. I get this message while awaiting connection to a legal server: awaiting cd key authorization (in yellow). I'm sure it isn't my firewall, because I turned it off and tried again, no luck tho. It also isn't a router, because I don't have one. I also tried to retype my cd key in the box in multiplayer options, for about 5 times, no luck. What I also did is uninstall both cod and uo of my hard disk with al his components and reinstall, I also tried to place the pb folder of someone else in my cod folder and that also didnt work, so it isn't a punkbuster issue. Please email me with some suggestions, I live in Holland and I have patch 1.51 installed, I'm sure I have a original legit cd key because I already went back to the shop and they gave me a new cd key.Because I had the same problem with my previous cd key. Please help me, Cheers, Maarten
Anybody knows another solution?

did you try only one server Pred? If so, try another. usually when the key is invalid you'll get thrown back main and it'll give you an error message saying cd key is in use. server might just be down.
and you're better off just calling them and actually speaking to someone about it. you'll get nothing but bullshit through electronic mail.

I get this error at every legal server, it just counts on, saying awaiting connection. the crack can't be on my hard disk anymore, I deleted everything that has to do with cod, also the files in my registry. Maybe I should try that chief. Dunno any other solutions...

the only advice i can give you is to do a total clean install. delete cod and uo through add/remove programs, then hit up windows explorer and manually delete the remaining files and folders. if you know how use regedit, delete the registry files too.
start - run - regedit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\
after all that, reinstall both cod and uo. good luck. let us know how that goes.
